The Japanese Yen Keeps Its Place as the Most Bearish Major Currency

15 November 2023

The Japanese yen has significantly weakened, reaching a 15-year low against the euro and a record low against the Swiss franc. This decline is mainly due to Japan’s central bank maintaining negative interest rates, in stark contrast to the rate hikes in Europe and the US. Japan’s economy has recently contracted, further weakening the yen’s position as the most bearish major currency.
